Is CBD safe?

The simple answer: yes! Everyone is different and will have varying reactions to everything. But, CBD is about as dangerous as a Flintstone vitamin; which means, not very dangerous.

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”World Health Organization

The rationale for the Flintstone vitamin analogy is not just because you can reasonably expect to use them safely. And, it’s not just because they’re delicious (like a CBD gummy). Importantly, vitamins, CBD, and many other products are classified by the FDA as supplements and are therefore regulated as food and not a medical drug. So not only does the FDA not test every single product on the shelves, they don’t evaluate the quality or assess effects of any supplement on the market.

Even though you may not think about this when buying vitamins, you should absolutely do research into the manufacturer until you can trust their product is reputable. The same is true with CBD products or any other kind of supplements.

The most common mistake or misrepresentation committed by CBD manufacturers is that a given product simply contains less than the advertised amount of active ingredient. Annoying? Yes. Harmful? No.

There is, however, some third party tests showing some CBD products to contain higher levels of heavy metals than allowed. While the chances you’ll notice this kind of contamination are small and even low levels of materials like lead are allowed in our drinking water and elsewhere, consumers should never be subjected to these tainted products. It’s just another reason to make sure the company behind the product is worthy of trusting. Because again, the FDA will only pull a product off the shelves if it’s found to be unsafe only after it reaches the market.
