Vitamin D plays a big role in mood! One of the reasons people get down in the wintertime is because of the lack of sunshine, aka seasonal affective disorder or SAD. Without all the sunlight shining it’s important to make up for the lack of vitamin D we’re getting.
Vitamin D also has many health benefits for fighting diseases. One of the most important functions of Vitamin D is regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. It also facilities normal immune system function and is a critical component of bone and teeth development!
What happens if you’re not getting enough Vitamin D?
Aside from the great benefits you get from Vitamin D such as preventing heart disease and aiding in weight loss, without Vitamin D you may be in trouble! Vitamin D deficiencies can lead to tiredness and a general sense of not feeling well. You can also be sore with aches and pains because you aren’t getting enough Vitamin D. It also can impact your bones! Without Vitamin D you’re more likely to experience stress fractures and severe bone or muscle pain.
What foods have Vitamin D?
Foods like fatty fish have Vitamin D in them naturally while other foods such as milk and yogurt are fortified which means Vitamin D was added. You can get vitamin D from foods like salmon, sardines, egg yolks, and shrimp!
Whether you’re getting it from the sun, food or in a supplement it’s always good to make sure you’re getting enough of the sunshine vitamin!
